The Rev. Alden C. Barnes was born and educated in Bridgeport, CT and was a member of Golden Hill UMC.
Prior to his call into the ordained ministry, Rev. Barnes was the owner of the House of Flowers in South Meriden and Barnes House of Flowers in Wallingford for 20 years. An active member of South Trinity UMC, he served as Lay Leader, Staff/ Pastor Parish Chair, Youth Group Initiator and Advisor, Sunday School Teacher, and choir member. A graduate of University of Connecticut, he returned to school receiving his Master of Divinity Degree from Drew Theological Seminary where he was a classmate of our Pastor Eric.
Rev. Barnes had been the Pastor of Plainville UMC for 12 years and is now retired. He previously served Saugerties UMC in Saugerties, NY. FUMC ofGreenwich, CT, and Mt. Hope and Teabo United Methodist Churches in Wharton and Mt. Hope, NJ.
During his pastorates he has always been actively involved in the community on various boards and in the local hospitals. He was a member of the Cancer Care Team and the Chaplaincy of the Greenwich Hospital and on the Board of Directors to Utilize Senior Energy.
He was past president of the Plainville Conference of Churches, Chairperson of the town’s annual CROP Walk. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Plainville Food Pantry and as Chaplain of the Plainville Fire Department.
On the district level, Rev. Barnes has served in many capacities including Chairperson of Dimchex, Spiritual Life and Evangelism. On the conference level he was Chairperson of Parish Development for both the Hudson North and Connecticut Central Districts, Secretary to the Conference Mission Board and served on the Stewardship Consultation Team.
Rev. Barnes and his wife, Helen, have three daughters.
